Golf Club Championship July 21-22 & 28-29, 2007
The Camden Braes G&CC Club Championships were extremely close this year, with Luke Simons edging out Gary Mackenzie to win by a single stroke. The 17 year old bounced back from a double bogey on the 16 th hole, making a long birdie try on #17 to get within a shot. Simons then made a great up and down on #18 to save par, while Mackenzie’s bogey try burned the right edge of the cup. The final round 74 gave Simons his first Men’s Club Championship, although he had won the Junior Club Championship the previous year.
Mackenzie’s final round 78 was enough to solidify his second Senior Club Championship in as many years. The Super Senior Championship went to Doug Perry, who played to his handicap, en route to his first title. Taking over the Junior title this year was Darcy Greenaway, who played steady throughout the championship. The low net score for the field belonged to Leo Hanlon, who shot a stellar net 274 over the four days to win by a landslide.
Christine Fraser captured the Ladies Club Championship for the third straight year, firing a solid 75 on both days to win by several strokes over the Senior Ladies Champion, Sharon McClelland. Low net honours for the ladies went to Linda Fraser, who went seven strokes below her handicap over the two days. The scores throughout the tournament were reflective of the beautiful conditions, and all of the champions played well and have certainly earned their bragging rights for the year to follow.
