Golf at it’s best; supporting Clothes for Kids

Saturday, July 30th, 2005

A fantastic day was enjoyed by everyone who attended the first ever Extreme Skills Challenge here at Camden Braes Golf & Country Club. 58 golfers came from all over Ontario to compete. Three groups were sent onto the course and vied for points as they were tested on drives, irons and putting.
The drive had to be long and accurate. Points were calculated using the distance of the drive minus the distance away from the center of the fairway.

Irons were from the 150 yard marker to a green with circles around the hole. Chip the ball into the hole was an automatic buy into the afternoon events. Each circle was worth more the closer to the hole.
The putting was done on #11 green. Starting about 32 feet away from the hole competitors putt and were taken back 4 feet each time they missed the hole. Points were given each putt so the fewer putts the better.

Afternoon Events: The Extreme Events took place in the afternoon. Eliminations were made and the remaining golfers went to The Wall, created by Rona. Testing irons consisted of shooting through the walls to a marked green. The kicker was when the walls were brought closer together! Harder than it looks!

This charity event was a success because of the generous support we received from local businesses. Clothes for Kids has been in operation for 17 years through Joe FM, Oldies 960 and CKWS TV and because of Clothes for Kids, over 2000 local children have received essential winter clothing. It doesn’t take much to enjoy our summers here in Kingston, but without the proper clothing winters can be long difficult.
